None of the four individuals have any previous experience or qualifications in the field of Human Resources. The managing director as an all round knowledge of company law, however no one in the business as experience of employment law.
Option B The People Products SolutionCase StudyCompany B, is a small publishing company, based in Liverpool. The Company started with five employees, and the Managing Director decided to process the payroll himself using an 'off the shelf' payroll package. His payroll knowledge was non-existent and he had not given a thought to sickness or holiday cover. He had no BACS facility so couldn't process payments directly into employee's bank accounts. Instead, each Friday, he gave every employee a hand written cheque made payable to cash - and allowed them time to go to the bank to collect the money.
Option C People Project ManagementCase StudyCompany C are a traditional engineering business based in the North West. Previously they employed up to 500 employees. They found themselves in an increasingly competitive environment where they were under enormous margin pressure from new entrants from the Far East. Overheads in terms of headcount were fixed and ultimately they were looking for a way forward which allowed them to retain a skilled labour force but ensure maximum operating efficiencies.
